I got a day off on Saturday to spend with my friend Angie. Had Cody to come and stay with his Papa so I didn't have to worry about him while I was gone and could really just relax and play with Angie, her sewing machines and fabric. It is really handy to have a Grandson studying nursing! If you don't sew they probably wouldn't sound fun but it was for us. We laughed and cut up like a couple of kids. Going down to her house my GPS took me one way and coming home it took me another way. Wonder if the next time I go see her it will take me still a different way? Love my GPS since I can manage to get lost going around the block. Angie send me home with a bag of fabric for halters. She has more fabric than I do and that is really saying something! I just love the cottons that she gave me.
I increased the coconut oil I am giving Max last night, added another tablespoon at night, so far so good, doesn't seem to be upsetting his tummy and I think he is doing a little better. He really laughed the other day for the first time in a long time. I ordered the MCT oil to add to his diet too. It should be here tomorrow or Wednesday. Will find out how this does when I add it. He is very positive about the addition of the coconut oil and the MCT to see if it works.
Have to get busy working on some more halters and then in the morning have to go to the grocery store. YUCK!!!!!

Busy sewing day
Seems like I have been sewing all day today, well guess that is because I have been sewing all day today except for when I have been trying to find out where to send my laptop to get it fixed. The screen just was black when I turned it on. This happened before Christmas and Best Buy has been giving me a royal run around since then. Finally found where to send it to. Best Buy said if I mailed it to them they would just not accept it. What a bunch of jerks, they were happy to sell it to me online and ship it to me. If I wanted to go to a store gone there to buy it. Put a stop of the credit card payment until I get my computer back and it works. I thought that a reverse of the charges would get their attention but it didn't! Don't every buy anything from Best Buy!!!!!
Got 2 dog halter dresses done for an order and one of the collars. Just need to do the top stitching on one of them and make a matching collar for the lady. The Lakers fabric came in today and I got that one made up tonight. Talk about a goof up, called the lady to tell her that it was ready and when she answered the phone she was in New York at a funeral. I am so embarrassed but I had no way to know. I got the cutest little charm dog prints to put on the halters, I think it will be one of those little things that set them apart from others that people sell. They don't cost very much but I think they are so cute.
Wednesday is doctor day in Murfreesboro so Hobby Lobby, here we come, McCall patterns on sale for 99 cents and hope to find some Valentine and St. Patrick fabrics. Maybe even some Easter prints. Max and I are going to the Chinese place while we are there, YUMMY!!!!! Teresa may even meet us there for lunch.
Late so I am going to go see if I can get any sleep and just finish up the rest of the halters in the morning, will make pictures before I deliver them.

Happy Birthday to Max
Even if it is a day late, yesterday my darling Max had a birthday. I didn't do anything special for him but told him we would go out for Chinese food when ever he wanted to go.
I got an order for a garden tool bucket yesterday so spent the day trying to figure out exactly how to make them. Finally got it done. Also have a pattern for one that fits in an ice cream bucket, that would work for little tools or for a child. I am going to have to try and do one of them after I get this one done for her. She said she was also looking for a sun bonnet, will have to check around and see what I did with the pattern I have for an old fashioned bonnet. This is one of my barter deals, she has 25 quilt blocks that she is willing to trade so both of us are happy with the trade. I just love bartering!!!! I think that one of these days that is going to be the only way people are able to get things they don't make or grow for themselves. Let's face it, money is getting to be worth less and less all the time.

Happy New Year
Well, here we are, 2012. I guess we have till December 21 to find out if this is the end of what? Just the end of the calendar or the end of everything? I just think we will wake up and it will be December 22, 2012 and it will be just like when we woke up and it was January 1, 2000. Nothing different, just a passing of another day.
Our neighbor took his gray cat home with him the other day and said he was going to pen her up for a couple of days and maybe she would stay home, well, guess who came back today? Max was sitting in the living room today and she looked in the window at him as if she was saying HI, I am back! I think Gray Kitty is our cat now. She does seem to be a sweet girl. Oh well, like I told Teresa, what is one more cat? The barn cats have moved over to the house and all of the outside guys seem to get along fine and even Matilda is OK when she goes outside to visit.
The grandsons came today and when they came in Cody said there is some kind of animal in the road down around the curve (Teresa's house) so I asked him what it was and he said he didn't know, something hairy. A llama, a goat, a sheep, what exactly? Cody and Dillon didn't have a clue! Took off to get what ever it was off the road and it was a very talented Highlander calf. Darted right back through the fence when she saw my Rodeo. They all recognize it and know that belongs there too. Had a steel rope cable in the car and wrapped it around the fence to maybe keep them in till fence can be fixed. Lucy the llama came up and wanted a neck rub, she is so funny, if she doesn't like you, watch out you are going to get spit on but fortunately, she likes me! At least she likes neck rubs. Talked to Teresa tonight and she is going to call me in the morning to help her with the fence if she needs it, probably just will need new clips on the wire. Oh well, if she needs me she will call. I have been busy getting some new halters finished so that I can get them in the mail for Fae. She ordered them for her 13" poodle and one for her daughter's dachshund, size unknown! Made the one for the dachshund about the size that would fit Carey's. Hope it works. They are ready to go in the mail on Tuesday along with the quilt blocks. Thanks to Angie, got lots of the sewing I needed to do finished. Got to work up some more halters for Marcie just got to do some for Valentine's Day.

Sock Monkey
Yippee! I figured out how to put pictures on here! So here is a sweet one of Angie with Jeffery. I think he is the new man in her life!!!! Well, now that I got to spend a fun day with my friend Angie and she brought me a wonderful sewing machine I am ready to get into high gear and start back sewing. I'll have to take a picture of it tomorrow and post it.I have to finish up the 13 quilt blocks for the blue and white swap and have sold 2 dog halters that I have to make. The lady ordered one green one for her poodle and one for her daughter's dachshund. Never made one for a dachshund before, don't know how long to make it. Making one for Jerry the Cavy was a little strange, had to allow for his "little" pot belly. Also have to get some halters done up to take to the groomer's shop. She and I decided that Valentine's day might be the next big seller, that and the University of TN and AL. Those Crimson Tide fans are serious about their University something like the U of T fans!. The Titans haven't done good enough this year to have their fans want theirs this year, maybe next year! Thought I might run one of the stuffed dog models by the vets office and see if they would handle them there. Maybe just a sign with the prices and my cards? Will have to see. Since I have to take the car to the shop tomorrow to get the oil changed maybe I can go by both of them then.
Since the title of this post is Sock Monkey and I haven't even mentioned them I guess I should add that I finally found where I could order the socks to make them and now that I have a really good sewing machine I just want to make some for fun! Know any little ones that would like one? 2 pair of socks came today.

Another goodie recipe to share
A Different Pecan Pie
Well, this is really a different kind of pecan pie, I really miss that old pecan tree at the house in Point Blank.This pie is very very sweet, it will easily serve 10 people even though it is only a 9" pie.
1 cup pure maple syrup
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup heavy cream
4 Tablespoons cold butter
1/2 teaspoon salt
6 large egg yolks
1 1/2 cups toasted pecans
9" pie shell, unbaked*
Make your pie crust using your favorite recipe, put in 9" Pyrex pie pan and refrigerate until ready to use. Preheat oven to 450 degrees. (I know this seems very hot but you will turn it down) *By keeping your pie crust in the refrigerator while you are making your filling your crust will be much more flaky.
Bring the syrup, brown sugar, salt and cream to a simmer and cook for 3 minutes. Take off heat and cool for 5 minutes, stir in butter until it melts. Slowly stir in yolks, tempering them if necessary but the syrup mixture should be cool enough that this shouldn't be necessary. Sprinkle toasted pecans into pie shell and pour syrup-egg mixture over the nuts and place in a 450 degree oven and immediately turn it down to 350 degrees, Cook for 50 minutes or until the filling barely shakes, it will finish cooking after you take it out of the oven. Cool for 1 hour then refrigerate. Bring to room temp before serving. Serve with Bourbon Whipped Cream or vanilla ice cream.

Chicken and Dressing
We made it through Christmas day, for lunch we had the ham that was left over from Thanksgiving and I fixed some chicken breasts and dressing. I just love plain sage dressing! Here is my simple recipe for our favorite dressing:
small loaf of home-made bread that is getting old
1 onion chopped
3 or 4 ribs of celery, chopped
1 stick of butter
2 eggs
1 can of chicken stock
One chicken cut into pieces or 4 chicken breasts if you like white meat or 6 thighs if you like the dark meat.
rubbed sage, Kosher or course salt and pepper
Bouquet Garni (optional)
Salt and pepper both sides of the chicken pieces. Rub in Bouquet Garni on the chicken pieces or if you prefer you can use additional rubbed sage.
Cook chopped onion and celery in the butter until onion is translucent and tender. Cut the bread into 1/2" cubes, sprinkle the bread with the sage, spread them onto a cookie sheet and toast in the oven while the onion and celery are cooking. (I like lots of sage so I use 1 to 2 tablespoons of it on my bread cubes, maybe even a little more!) Soon as the bread is starting to lightly brown remove it from the oven and allow to cool down. Pour the eggs over the crumbs, add 1 to 1 1/2 tsp. Kosher salt and 1 tsp. pepper, the onions, celery and butter. Toss, then add the chicken stock until moistened. If your bread is very dry or you have a larger loaf you may have to use 2 cans of stock. Place in a 9 X 13" baking pan and place your chicken pieces on the top. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour then cover with a sheet of parchment paper and wrap with tin foil. Never let the foil touch your food, always have a layer of parchment paper between the food and the foil. Continue baking until chicken is 165 degrees when tested with an instant read thermometer in the thickest part of the meat. Remove from oven and let the chicken rest for 10 to 15 minutes, this will make your chicken more moist and flavorful than if you don't allow it to rest.
When you make dressing you can make it with 1/2 corn bread and 1/2 regular bread if you like corn bread dressing. You can also add all sorts of additional things to it, everything from Creole sausage to oysters to nuts to apples. Any of these add a wonderful new flavor to your dressings.
